9.24.07   Oregon Active Special Ops Mission
Operation wallet recon

OREGON ACTIVE SPECIAL OPS MISSION - OPERATION WALLET RECON

Oregon Active had to utilize its first ever recon mission. The team of Casey Dale, Chris Yonker, and Devin Kelly had a mission that was labeled impossible.

The Scenario - After Devin's 2nd jump off the 200 ft bridge, thanks to the keen eye eyesight of the jumpmaster, he noticed that Devin's wallet had fallen out of his pocket and plummeted 200 ft into the waters of canyon creek. Since it was pitch black, with nothing but water below, and nobody witnessed where the wallet landed, the group consensus was that the wallet was a lost soldier never to return to battle. Oregon Active leader Chris Yonker said with absolute certainty, "We will return to the bridge and find that wallet"

The Mission - After everyone telling them what a waste of time it would be trying to find a wallet in the middle of a river atop a 200 ft bridge, Devin Kelly and Chris Yonker embarked on their mission. Binoculars alone would not allow visible sight of the wallet from the bridge so Devin and Chris hiked down the treacherous ravine to get a closer look. After being stopped by a 20 ft drop off, they knew this was as close as they could get. Peering through the binoculars Devin saw something in the water that resembled a unidentified object..Part one of the mission was complete and it appeared that they had potentially located the subject.

Knowing that the rescue was going to be the most difficult part of the assignment, they called on mountain search and rescue specialist Casey Dale to assist with the retrieval. After carefully studying the scenario they knew there was only one way to retrieve the soldier..Devin would need to suit up in a wetsuit and rappel down the 200 ft bridge into the cold waters of Canyon Creek.

The Outcome - Thanks to the rope and technical detail from Casey Dale, the operation expertise from Chris Yonker, and the execution skills of Devin Kelly, we are pleased to announce the mission was successful and the wallet was recovered from the waters without harm and without incident.

At Oregon Active, no soldier is left behind! Check out the photos of the mission!
