The Urban Trail Series was developed to explore, discover, and enjoy the beautiful hiking trails around Portland. A chance to get outside and try something new..meet new friends.. get off the couch and enjoy the great outdoors during the work week. It’s super casual and we will explore a new trail each week for six weeks straight. So get out there, step off the treadmill and try something new..
3.17.08 Urban Trail Series Signed singletrack trail that begins at Marquam Shelter and travels through a picturesque Douglas fir, red alder, and big-leaf maple forest to the summit of Council Crest. Steep forest ascent and descent. Wood stairs. Three paved road crossings. City and mountain views. This trail takes you on a city escape through the fern-filled forest of Marquam Nature Park.
You’ll power uphill on quality dirt that twists and turns up a forested canyon to the spectacular 1,043-foot summit of Council Crest. Wild raspberries, delicate maidenhair fern, Oregon grape, elderberry, and wildflowers line the trail. Big-leaf maple and Douglas fir trees provide welcoming shade as you tackle the steep ascent. After a steep romp, you’ll exit the forest canopy and arrive at the summit of Council Crest.
