5.18.09   Urban Trail Series
Week #2 - Japanese Rose Gardens to Pittock Mansion

Week Two’s singletrack adventure starts at the Japanese
Rose Gardens in Washington Park. The route takes you
along one of the most scenic sections of the Wildwood
Trail. Amazing trees surround you as you sail on the
smooth route through Hoyt Arboretum, home to a
collection of trees representing more than 1,100 species
gathered from around the world. Where else can you see
a grove of ancient dawn redwoods?
Eventually the trail heads downhill to Burnside Street.
After crossing Burnside you’ll blast uphill through a
shady canopy to your turnaround point at historic Pittock
Mansion. Be sure to check out the amazing view of
Portland and Mount Hood from the mansion’s rear lawn.

Leap off the highest bridge in North America

This Sunday join Oregon Active and chuck yourself off the highest bungee bridge in the United States. You will be jumping off a 200ft private bridge above class V waters in the beautiful foothills of Mt St. Helens. 5.16.09   Ape Caves Adventure
Come explore the longest lava tube in the United States

The Ape Caves are the longest continuous lava tube in the western hemisphere. The Cave features a 1.4 mile upper section that is well-suited for the adventurous type. The upper portion of the cave takes about 2½ hours to complete, returning on a surface trail. Cavers will climb over approximately 27 boulder piles and scale an 8-foot (2.5m) high lava fall.

Come run, jog, walk, and explore the hidden secrets of Forest Park. Grab your dog, grab a friend and just show up. The trail is fully marked and it's a "go at your own pace" event.
